Baljinder made the decision to donate a kidney to her husband after being encouraged by her daughter and inspired by another family member’s living donor experience.

Her husband had just started dialysis when Baljinder stepped forward as a potential donor—the first person to be tested. She began the evaluation process in spring 2024, which took three to four months to complete. She found the experience smooth and well organized and felt supported by the healthcare team, who took time to explain every step and ensure her safety.

When she learned she was a match, Baljinder felt relieved and excited. She donated her left kidney to her husband in November 2024.

Her recovery was quick and uncomplicated and within three days, she was already feeling well again. After resting for a few months as advised, she returned to her usual routine with no major changes.

“I tell everyone—if you are able, you should give a kidney.”
— Baljinder, Living Donor

For her husband, the impact was immediate and life-changing. His health improved significantly after the transplant, and within six months, he was able to travel again—something that had not been possible while he was on dialysis.

Baljinder’s family stood by her side throughout the journey. Her daughters, son and daughters-in-law in Canada provided support and her eldest daughter even travelled from New Zealand to be with her during the transplant process.

Today, Baljinder continues to enjoy life as she did before—visiting the temple, travelling, and planning trips to India. She now shares her story openly, encouraging others to consider living donation without fear.

“I tell everyone—if you are able, you should give a kidney,” she says.
